How to create labels in Word

1324 ratings | 700022 views
It should be simple, but sometimes finding the way to create a page of labels in Word can be frustrating. This simple video will show you step-by-step how to create an entire sheet of the same labels to use for mailing, sticking, or whatever you like!

Thank you so much for this video. I have a question. I want a third of the sheet to say 1 thing and the rest to say another. I have different ingredients that are not quite a full sheet. I noticed you mentioned this but did you mean I could reuse the sheet and start over?? Thank you
Terri Grover (1 month ago)
Hi there. Please be sure to subscribe to my channel! You cannot print two different sets at one time. However, if you click "new document" when making your labels you can delete the bottom two thirds of the labels in the table that appears and print just one third. Then, repeat the process, deleting the bottom third, and load the label sheet backwards in the printer so the section of blank labels loads first. No wasted labels!

Best video of the week! I felt so dumb not being able to do this! You have salvaged what little there is of my self-esteem!

It sounds like you were able to figure it out. Avery US is listed under the Label Vendors section. Good for you!

do you need sticker paper for this?
Terri Grover (6 months ago)
If you are talking about labels, of course you need them if you want to be able to stick the labels. That depends on your situation.

My labels don't appear in the list.
janet adams (8 months ago)
Thanks for the advice.
Terri Grover (8 months ago)
Hi, Janet, check the package again. They may include an Avery equivalent number for your labels if they are a store brand. Also, match the dimensions instead of the number if necessary.

I'm trying to remove a blank page of labels but for some reason there is no video showing that. Only how to create them.
Terri Grover (1 year ago)
Phoebe, if you are getting a blank page, your margins are too close to the bottom of the page, and an extra paragraph is being added. Bring up the margin (you can click in the ruler where white and gray meet) just a tad, and the extra page should disappear. You can bring up the bottom or the top margin. If you don't see the ruler, click the View tab and check Ruler in the ribbon. Hope that helps!

Can the label template be switched to another template without having to re-fill or re-type the contents again
Terri Grover (1 year ago)
Yes, you should be able to click on the Mailing tab, then labels. Select your label# and be sure to say you want to use the current document, not a new one.
Dante Sparda (1 year ago)
thank you very very much <3
Derrick Buswell (1 year ago)
New to the label production. Had quick look at the advice videos but could not see help for using Mac computer.  Have down loaded template but have problems, one being lining up text against the FB logo.  Help the aged please.
Terri Grover (1 year ago)
Derrick, the Mac version in the 2016 or Office 365 version is quite similar to the Windows you see here. It's better to go directly through Word using these directions than trying to download a template.

DjoTech (1 year ago)
How do I make 12 rows and 4 columns? Thanks.
Terri Grover (1 year ago)
You need to click the "update labels" button on the Mail Merge tab!
DjoTech (1 year ago)
Another little question. Do you maybe know how to make them all the same, so I don't have to paste in every label?
DjoTech (1 year ago)
Thanks, I'm doing that right now!
Terri Grover (1 year ago)
Djo, you would need to select the correct label type in the step where you choose your labels. If you don't see the right one, there is a place where you can create custom label sizes.

Thanks a lot Terri! You saved me so much time from doing copy and paste over and over. Plus, you just taught me a new skill that I can share.

Very simple and easy to follow. Was able to create a label after 2:38! Thanks!
Danny Costa (2 years ago)
I have different names to print, please tell me how to print.
Terri Grover (2 years ago)
Danny, you need to link the labels with a list of names as instructed in the video. If you want to, you can also manually type in names once you have created your labels.
sharon kelly (2 years ago)
after I insert the worksheet name (on word), it does not "see" the "last name" (column a) -- but it does the "first name" (column b). How can I get it to pick up the last name column too?

How do I set the tabs to move the text over just a bit to the right?
Terri Grover (2 years ago)
Hi, Sandy, simply adjust the margins slightly to move it over. Position your cursor between the gray and white sections of the ruler on top and click and drag to adjust.

Pamela Parker (2 years ago)
how do i create multiple labels of different information
Terri Grover (2 years ago)
Hi, Pamela, Do you mean that you want different fields on each label? I'm not clear whether these fields are all for one person (record). You can opt to enter different fields in each cell instead of using the "update" button, but you may get data from subsequent records in each label. Try it and see what you get.
